Just to appease those hankering for pics, here's one of the 3 boys (and for those lurkers... yes THREE boys) taken yesterday. We had as much difficulty telling them apart all day as you are right now. But the point was to be able to easily spot a straying team member in a crowd and for that, it worked well.
But the real purpose of this post is just to say hang with us! Don't think I've abandoned the blog... no, just sometimes... ok, MOST times I'm feeling a little like a cat in the ocean. God is good and I'm not drowning no matter how much I may think I am!
Just to fill you in a touch, we are now proud and humbled foster parents! Proud because we love our new son. Humbled because we never knew exactly how clueless we could be when it comes to parenting until now. And until they invent kids with tickers on their foreheads where we can simply read what exactly is taking place in their little minds, I guess we're just going to have to rely on God Almighty.
And I've gotten back into running. This time barefoot or close to it. Some friends decided to train for a 5K and I decided if I trained with them, not only would I get back to not feeling like I was going to die at the end of the block, but that it would build slowly enough for me to change my form and thus ditch all the braces and gizmos that held me together while marathoning. Yeah... except right now my ankle is incredibly sore and I'm out for tomorrow's run. And Randy has worked the bees, harvested some honey, processed said honey into jars, finished the dishes, put the kids to bed, and milked the goats all while I sit here with my foot iced and elevated hoping I'm not limping tomorrow morning when I'm watching a friend's 4 children with our own. As insane as it sounds to have 8 kids to keep whole and mostly unscathed, the truth is 2 are older and VERY good with younger kids. And its only for a couple hours. But still, I don't want to be limping just in case I do have to chase one down.
And I rearranged my schedule to squeeze blood from a stone. Randy came home from Haiti (yeah, he went to Haiti for a week and a half... and we did all kinds of special things, both to be blogged about at a future time) and we decided to really dedicate some time, even from our comfy first world home, to making Haiti a more prosperous nation. Thankfully we have great people leading the charge on that and I mostly just send e-mails and make phone calls and try to get creative and inventive on how they can use their resources best. Randy has made this a lot easier for me by blessing me with a wireless router. So I work on a laptop his brother gave us outside while the kids run wild. Its good. And I'm able to do more odds and ends of things while schooling Gloria. So, yes, wireless routers DO squeeze blood from a stone.
Meanwhile, we're keeping a very tight schedule so I can garden, clean the house, do laundry, bake, iron, school, go to story time, pay bills, visit my grandpa who is now in assisted living, work for Haiti, teach piano lessons, grocery shop and do yard work, all on a weekly (or daily) basis all with 4 children in tow. Not to mention loving on 3 kids who need to know Mom is still theirs and loving on and disciplining 1 kid who's entire world is topsy turvy with actions and reactions to boggle the mind. Even still, I thought blogging would fit right in with multi-tasking during school time, but alas, that hasn't happened yet. Dream with me though.
So take some time to smell the roses... or feed the chickens. Because we do. Its not all zoo and chaos. When we're going we're going strong. When we're enjoying each other, we're truly enjoying each other. And a computer just doesn't fit with that.
